Alternate Means

Are you right? How fervent is your belief? How intent are you on imposing your will upon others?

If politics is the world of persuasion and influence, then perhaps some people will stop at nothing to justify themselves.

Carl von Clausewitz is quoted as saying “war is a continuation of politics by alternate means.” So then, it’s a decision. A decision that comes with a high cost. To both sides.

A dispute that is eventually resolved with a handshake between generals, heads of state, and a bunch of note-takers who draw new lines on a map, or leave the lines as they were. And then people pay more in taxes to pay for this human endeavor.

So, shouldn’t we just start there, and save the expense?

Can’t we all just get along?
